This statue celebrates the life of Antarctic explorer Captain Robert Falcon Scott.  This sculpture was carved from Carrara Marble by Scott’s widow Kathleen Scott. She travelled to Carrara in Italy where she carved the statue in 1916

Scott used Christchurch and Lyttelton as his base for launching his two major Antartic exploration trips; the British National Antarctic Expedition (1901-1904) and the Terra Nova expedition (1910-1913). Captain Scott died alongside his men on the second ill fated expedition in 1913.

This statue is located at the intersection of Oxford Terrace and Worcester Street, Central Christchurch, Christchurch, New Zealand.
