This huge sculpture resembling a bushel of wheat was installed in 2008 is by Auckland artist Regan Gentry. This 13 metre tall metal sculpture sits on the edge of Christchurch’s Cathedral square. This sculpture gives a nod to the history of Canterbury and it’s plains which once grew crops like wheat, but now support growing suburbs. Up close one can see that what looked, from a distance, like wheat kernels are actually street lights, which turn on at night. Street lights are often one of the early suburb of new suburban development.  Flour Power is a witty commentary on the changing of Christchurch and it’s environs.

This sculpture can be found at the intersection of Columbo and High Streets in the Christchurch CBD.
