Made from stainless steel, this sculpture is a great example of the work of George Rickey, one of the greatest kinetic artists of the 20th Century.  Rickey a resident of the United States was commissioned to make this work for the Auckland Art Gallery Collection and was installed in 1985.

The two L shaped vanes have been engineered to move with the smallest breeze, in a way which can only be described as hypnotic.

Born in Indiana in 1907, he showed his first kinetic sculptures in New York in 1951. His work is shown in collections in the US, Japan, New Zealand and Europe.  He passed away in 2002.
