This sculpture was one of a number of piano based sculptures made for the exhibition Michael Parekowhai On First Looking Into Chapman’s Homer for the New Zealand pavilion at the 54th Venice Biennale in 2011. The title of the sculpture links to a poem with the same title by 19th century romantic poet John Keats.  The title of this piece of the exhibition is called A Peak in Darien.  In his poem, Keats mentions Cortez first seeing the Pacific from “a peak in Darien”.

This sculpture is made from bronze, steel and a Steinway piano.

This sculpture is located outside the Christchurch Art Gallery.
